Sketchblog Edition 66: Needing Vs. Getting

Well...
Today was another weird day.

It started weird,
got okay toward the middle,
then ended like an atom-bomb going off.

I won't go into it,
but let's just say that the lesson of the day is:
don't assume anything.
It could make life harder for you and for those around you,
and the words you say and the actions you take
could very well impact the lives of your friends forever,
positively or negatively.
Be careful what you say and do.

That aside,
let's get to today's sketches.

The free sketch for today goes to hoodie on deviantART,
who wanted the Kusuriuri (Medicine Seller) from the series Mononoke,
which is one of my favorite anime,
and is highly underrated.

These next sketches are character conceptuals for a short story I'm thinking about making.
The basic concept is the idea of:
"What would you do if you were all-powerful?"

So... what would YOU do?

Thanks again for reading!
Love you all,
and have a good night!

p.s. No matter what,
always remember this:
Friends are one of the most important things you'll ever have.
Don't let go of them without a fight,
and if you know you have something special,
don't ever let anyone get between you.

True friends will always be there for you,
even if it hurts them.
True friends will always love you,
even if they can't love themselves.
True friends will always wait for you,
even if you never come back,
and the world falls away around them,
and everything turns to dust.

The bond between true friends won't die,
no matter distance,
no matter consequence,
no matter disdain,
and no matter how much you want to run from it.

Remember this,
because friends are important.
They could save a life.

Sketchblog Edition 64-65: Sentimental Heart

Sorry for another lack of update.
Yesterday and today have been...
weird, to say the least.
I won't go into details,
but let's just say being in a place where you don't have quite as many friends
and no transportation of your own
really,
really,
REALLY
sucks.

But enough about that.
Here are the sketches I owe you!

The free sketch from Friday goes to Arricia-Sama on deviantART.
She requested the Blue Beetle.
Here you go!

Today's (Saturday's) free sketch is Ash Crimson,
for MIRA-09 on deviantART.
Enjoy!

Yesterday (being Friday), my dad and my sister and I went to see A-Team.
It was pretty fun, though absolutely ridiculous.
Turn off your brain and just enjoy this one, trust me.
While we were waiting for the movie to start,
I drew some roughs for a robot design.

Today, I got extremely antsy and my Mom was kind enough to cater to my needs and went out to the mall with me.
I looked at boots.
It was delightful.

We also went to Disc Replay,
where Mom (who has an affinity for horrible sci-fi movies) found the movie Bug.
We brought it home and watched it...
It was everything we expected it to be- horrible and cheesy.
Yes!

Just kind of started fooling around in my sketchbook...
Not much to say.

Needless to say,
I really need to get some form of transport for myself,
otherwise I'm going to go crazy stuck in this house all Summer.
I still can't believe it hasn't even been a full month at home yet.
It feels like it's been forever.

I miss all my SCAD friends. :(

However,
it's nice to spend some quality time with my family.
I love them all and it's enjoyable being with them.
My Dad is especially a joy to be with.
I missed him greatly.

He always knows how to make me feel better.
The other night he noticed I was having a bad day,
so he said to me,
"You are extremely talented.
Keep that passion and you'll go far."

That goes for all of you too.
If you have something your good at,
something you love to do,
hold onto that.
Stay pumped about it and find ways to make every moment you spend doing it like the first time you did it.
Keep the love for it fresh.
Stay passionate,
and nothing will stop you.

Thank you all for reading!
Love you all,
and goodnight!

Sketchblog Edition 63: Broadening Horizons

Between taking the animals to the vet and spending some nice quality time with my sister and my parents individually,
I have to say today was a good day.

Before Liz had to go to work we played some Wii games and then she left and Dad and I took Hobbes and Tucker (our cat and dog respectively) to the Vet for their annual check-ups.
Hobbes has been getting skinnier even though he's eating more, so that was a major concern,
and Tucker has a small lump on his hind quarter, so we had to get that tested.
We should find out more about both tomorrow,
though the vet didn't sound too concerned.

Later, Mom and Dad and I went out to Borders where I bought volume 3 of Yotsuba&! and Dad bought me the anime film Metropolis on DVD as a Thank-You for typing a quiz for him.
Afterwards we went to Portillo's for dinner,
I hopped into Best Buy to get the new Crash Kings, New Pornographers, and OK Go albums, and grabbed a FIFA edition Coca-Cola on the way out,
then we all stopped by Dairy Queen for some dessert before going home.

Mom and I played some card games, and Tucker fell asleep on my lap,
and then Dad and I watched the first hour of Metropolis together.

While watching it, I felt my creativity bursting, so I did a few sketches for today.

Here's the free request,
for 2ndLtHavoc on deviantART,
who wanted Wembly from the great children's show Fraggle Rock.
Man, I love Muppets!
Enjoy!

Hobbes was sauntering around the house like a diva and it gave me some good cat poses to draw.

Of course, watching Metropolis made me want to draw robots,
so here's an awesome robot girl thing.

Last, but not least,
this next sketch is something straight out of a dream I had.
I haven't had a flying dream in quite a while,
which is odd, because I used to have them all the time.
When I come home, however, I get dreams like crazy.
I dreamed the other night that I was some weird wild winged creature searching for a wide open space to call my own,
but everywhere I went there were just trucks and buildings and landfills and pollution,
and the people of the city started hunting me,
so I kept leaping from rooftop to rooftop in an attempt to get away.
I woke up before I could finish the dream.
I hate that.

Anyway, here's the creature I dreamed I was (a rough interpretation, of course):

That's all for today!

Thanks again for reading!
Love you all, and goodnight!

Sketchblog Edition 62: The Days Crawl By

I'll be honest-
Today was pretty uneventful.
The bulk of it I spent at home,
trying to keep busy by doing chores around the house.

It wasn't a horrible day, though.
Granted, I felt a little claustrophobic most of the day,
but the nice part was that the entire family (and Liz's boyfriend Jimmy)
were all home and spent time together at the same time,
which is an unfortunately rare occurrence due to all our varied schedules.

A major storm swept through town just before Jimmy got here,
cutting power to all of our neighborhood.
So we picked up Jersey Mike's for dinner and played Zonk! and Guillotine together by lamplight.
Later the power came back on and Dad and I finished watching the Royale Shakespeare Company version of Hamlet,
which we've been digesting in chunks for the past few days.

But enough about me.
Here are the sketches of the day.

First up is the free sketch of the day,
which goes to Warnoon on DeviantART.
He requested Candle Jack from the series Freakazoid!.
Hope you like!

Here I'm just playing around with viewing a pose from different angles.
Trying to keep perspective skills in check,
though it failed on a few levels.
That's what sketching is for, though, right?
It's not meant to be perfect, just meant to keep you moving.

My poor nervous dog inspired this next sketch.
He gets extremely stressed during thunderstorms,
so today was especially rough on him.
After the storm passed he was laying on the floor, exhausted.
Poor guy.

In case you couldn't already tell,
I love creature design.
These are some quick sketches trying to figure out various versions of a creature design I'm probably going to work on soon.
I'm not sure which one I'm going to go with.
Maybe all of them.
(They could all be variations of a species, I suppose.)

Anyway, that's all!
I'm exhausted,
so I'm going to type this quiz for my Dad's Summer School class,
then go to bed.

Thanks for reading!
Love you all, and goodnight!

Sketchblog Edition 54-61: Playing Catch-Up, Part 2

As promised, here are the rest of the sketches from the past couple weeks!

Again, I won't blabber about them.
Most of them aren't up to par in my own opinion,
but there are some fun ones,
and it was good to get myself back in the habit of sketching a lot.

There are some creature designs for use in my mythical world of Randomia,
some character sketches from various stories of mine,
and just some random sketches.

Enjoy!

This was an image I saw in a dream I had...
A bunny-creature wearing a sort of mini-tux.
Don't ask, cuz I don't know.

Experimenting with wing designs.

Sketch of a turtle while watching news coverage of the oil spill in the gulf.

Motorcycle designs.

I woke up one morning to see strange light patterns on my ceiling above my bed.
I had to draw them.

Derpy Dad.

Derpy Mom.

Derpy Liz.

Drew this while in Church.

On Father's Day, Dad requested I draw an octopus eating a roll from Texas Roadhouse.

Jackalope.

Chibi drawing of Hiccup and Toothless being bffs. ^^

Quick sketches of Hobbes, my cat.

Quick sketches of Tucker, my dog.

Attempt at a redesign of my half-elf courier character Haita.

Took Tucker for a walk.
He chased a rabbit.

The following few sketches are experiments in an attempt to observe flight patterns for a person with wings, depending on where the wings are placed on the body.

Emma in a Wedding Dress?

I found a 4-legged spider today.
This "turtle-spider" is inspired by it.

SeiRei.

Haita again.

Designs for Haita's SkyWasp vehicle.

Thanks for being so patient as I got everything back in order!
I hope this won't happen again,
so I can keep pumping out sketches for you to enjoy
and keep myself in drawing shape. :)

Love you all,
and have a great night!
